"Half Time" by Bob Buford
In a recent post, I talked about this book that was on my reading list. I'm 90% done, but the message is clear: Changing Your Gameplan from success to significance.
Bob Buford says the first part of men's lives are about success. Climbing the ladder, filling the trophy shelves, acquiring wealth, things like that. Then, you reach a point when these things are not satisfying. They don't bring the fulfillment that you are looking for.
Then, he suggests that real contentment comes from serving others, giving of yourself instead of getting for yourself. At some point in your life you should begin to work toward things that will outlast your life. You should begin to build a legacy that is not buried with you.
Success is defined by what good you've done for yourself. Significance is defined by what good you've done for others.
I'm so glad I got ahold of this book at 33 years old. I don't want to wait until I'm 55 or 60 to start building a legacy that will outlive me. I'm getting started now.
